FAQ
Gas-Fired, High-Intensity & Low-Intensity Infrared Heaters
1. What is NDUSTRIA™ Infrared heating?
NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters bring gentle warmth and comfort to almost every commercial space from restaurant patios to hotels to entertainment venues. Industrial applications like auto repair centers, loading docks and assembly plants, as well as outdoor residential areas all benefit from NDUSTRIA™ infrared heating. Available in electric or gas and high- or low-intensity, our infrared heaters efficiently heat people, floors, and objects, not the air – similar to how the sun heats the earth. All of these objects retain the heat and re-radiate it within the space. Since heat is retained within the space and not lost when overhead doors are opened, infrared heaters use 30 to 50% less energy than warm air heaters.
2. Are NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters controllable?
Our NDUSTRIA™ gas-fired, high-intensity heaters (Model GG) and low-intensity heaters (Models NHE & NBH) require 120V to operate. The heaters can simply be turned On/Off using a switch, timer, or more commonly, controlled by either 120V or 24V thermostats (transformer relay required for 24V thermostat model NBH heaters). You can install one thermostat per heater or multiple heaters on one thermostat. Select models (1500W) of our NDUSTRIA™ electric high-intensity heaters (Model NEL) include a remote control. Other models (3000W & 6000W) can be controlled by a simple On/Off switches.
3. Are NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters fully effective immediately?
You begin to feel the warmth of NDUSTRIA™ electric high-intensity heater (Model NEL) immediately. NDUSTRIA™ gas-fired, low-intensity heaters (Models NHE & NBH) and high-intensity heater (Model GG) warm up quickly.
4. What is the difference between high-intensity and low-intensity infrared heating?
High-intensity infrared heaters, often called ceramic heaters, have an open flame and high temperature (1800 °F) ceramic surface. The flame heats the ceramic surface and reflectors direct heat downwards within the space. These compact, high-intensity heaters concentrate heat in localized areas. As such, these heaters are ideal for spot heating industrial and commercial applications found in loading docks or near overhead doors. Low-intensity (maximum 900 °F – 1000 °F) infrared heaters consist of a burner box connected to a tube or series of tubes, with each tube covered by a reflector. The flame generated in the burner box is pushed down the tube (heat exchanger), the tube warms up and the reflector directs heat to the floor below. Low-intensity tube heaters are ideal for entire space heating of commercial and industrial buildings like restaurant patios, hotels, entertainment venues, assembly areas, or autobody repair centers.
5. Are NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters safe to use?
Yes, NDUSTRIA™ heaters are safe to use when installed, operated, and serviced according to the respective Installation, Operation & Service manuals.
6. Where can I buy NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters?
You can purchase NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters directly online at Ndustria.com.
7. Are NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters applicable for indoor and outdoor uses?
Our NDUSTRIA™ gas-fired, high-intensity heaters (Model GG) are for indoor, spot heating applications.
Our gas-fired, low-intensity heaters (Models NHE & NBH) are approved for both indoor and outdoor use. Specific to outdoor heating applications, Model NHE tube heaters can be installed without cover. The NHE unit is designed for more exposed and extreme environments and has a water-resistant enclosure. It can be mounted along the central support of an outdoor dining tent and also works for uncovered spaces, most likely mounted on an outside building wall. Our covered patio NBH model is not designed for extreme cold, wet, or windy weather conditions. However, the NBH can be a good solution for outdoor spaces where there is a permanent, covered roof over a patio.
Electric high-intensity heater (Model NEL) is approved for indoor and outdoor commercial use, and outdoor residential use.
8. Do I need a specialist to install my heater?
Our NDUSTRIA™ gas-fired, high-intensity heaters (Model GG) and low-intensity heaters (Models NHE & NBH) need to be installed by a contractor qualified in the installation and service of gas-fired heating equipment or your gas supplier; they require a gas line and appropriate, safe electrical service. Models (1500W) of our NDUSTRIA™ electric high-intensity heaters (Model NEL) do not require a contractor for installation. You simply install the mounting bracket, hang the heater, and plug in. Other electric high-intensity models (3000W & 6000W) require installation by a qualified, licensed contractor.
9. How long do NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters last?
Once installed, operated, and maintained per the respective Installation, Operation & Service manuals, NDUSTRIA™ gas-fired low- and high-intensity infrared heaters provide years of trouble-free operation. The emitter of NDUSTRIA™ electric high-intensity heaters (Model NEL) will last 5,000 hours.
10. Do NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters require venting?
NDUSTRIA™ gas-fired, low-intensity heaters (Models NHE & NBH) are approved vented or unvented per the respective Installation, Operation & Service manuals.
Combustion air and venting requirements for NDUSTRIA™ gas-fired, high-intensity heaters (Model GG) must be provided per National Fuel Gas Code NFPA54, CAN B149 or the authority having jurisdiction over the installation. These ceramic heaters require a minimum ventilation flow of 4 CFM per 1000 Btu per hour of total installed heater capacity by either gravity or power ventilation. For more ventilation information, consult ASHRAE handbooks, local codes and the respective Installation, Operation & Service manual. Building exhaust openings for vented applications must be located above heater level and inlet air openings must be located below heater level.
Electric high-intensity heaters (Model NEL) do not require venting since these heaters do not produce combustion byproducts like fuel-fired units and do not need oxygen to operate. Please refer to the respective Installation, Operation & Service manual for details.
11. What is the space that NDUSTRIA™ infrared heaters cover?
A simple calculation to determine the approximate size of the area each heater will directly heat is to multiply the heater mounting height by 2 and add the heat exchanger length. For example: A 100,000 BTU 30’ long straight heater (Our NHE-100) mounted at 10’ above the floor will directly heat an area that is 20’ wide and 30’ long. Please refer to our Buying Guide for more detailed heat coverage calculations.
